Looking for an evergreen columnar shaped tree to screen out an unsightly view, create privacy or minimize street noise? Japanese blueberry tree is a beautiful specimen that is perfect for creating urban privacy screens or planting in park and parking lot areas. Shiny new foliage emerges a beautiful bronze color that turn deep-green over time. As leaves mature they turn gold to red before dropping. In spring or summer, small, white, five-petaled flowers peak out from the dense foliage; while they are inconspicuous, they are highly fragrant. In winter, flowers are followed by small, non-staining olive-shaped fruits. Japanese blueberry tree performs best when planted in loose, rich, well-drained soil, but can tolerate neutral to slightly alkaline soils. Take note that plants tend to go chlorotic in soils with high pH. This is not a plant for very dry climates and soils – plants need regular moisture, especially during times of intense heat. Plants have a moderate growth rate.
